Aw, thank you so much, your kind words about Tank Like A Girl mean a lot to me. That was exactly what I hoped it would accomplish, some tanking tips for the non-hardcore players.

As for my feelings on D3 and MoP, I will likely play both. I probably won't rush to get D3 on release day, because once again I am disappointed that Blizzard is sticking with the region separation that seemingly all other game developers (Trion, Bioware, ArenaNet) have gotten rid of. I like playing with my American friends as option. MoP I will likely even revive Kadomi for, because I really miss playing her the most. Not sure if this will revive a long-term love of WoW but I'll definitely go see some of the new content. I am also excited for Guild Wars 2, but cautiously because the hype monster killed many games. I am also still playing SWTOR and still enjoying it.

Thank you so much for your blogs, especially this one in particular. I stumbled upon this because it linked from Tank Like a Girl, which I know is long-since moribund, but hey, I still check in at Tanking Tips from time to time as well because I'm a dweeb. Anyways, long story short, I thought that my wife and I were the only ones who get all sentimental about gaming, but I'm excited to find that you (and apparently many others) share the same nostalgic feelings! Reading this post made me think of my own newbish adventures, and how much fun my wife and I had tripping around (literally) in various WoW-zones. We also share much of the disenchantment that followed, especially with the dungeon-raiding system. On a side note, which I'm sure you've probably already heard from others, I particularly enjoyed Tank Like a Girl because it was more accessible to me as a warrior tank. I always felt intimidated by theorycrafting sites because, while I was competent, I just didn't have the time or desire to make warrioring a science. I wanted to kill stuff with a sword and shield. Always have, always will, even though I gave up tanking. Ok, Ok, I've gone too far into my own story. I just wanted to thank you for your posts. I'm sure that the feelings are echoed in many other readers, as they are with me.
P.S. Do you have any feelings on Diablo 3 or Mists of Padaria? I am looking forward to GW 2, but so far have been unable to find any news of a release date. I hope they finally break free of the "trinity," that would be a blast. Have a good one!

We'll see. I will definitely be playing it. With no subscriber fee, it's pretty much a no-brainer. The art does look beautiful. I am concerned with the female models, but let's see if my fear is truly warranted.

Whilst I am definitely riding the "hype-train", I feel that Guild Wars 2 is going to produce something for the genre - a breath of fresh air - that will revive a lot of the feelings that us jaded MMO players have, and also challenge alot of preconceived notions about MMORPGs.

The game certainly stands out considering it is not directly competing with any other titles, such as World of Warcraft. They are building a game that is free of the preconceived notions surrounding MMOs, such as the grind and the "carrot on a stick" approach. They are also putting the 'massively' back into MMORPG, by providing a new approach to traditional questing, one that involves the community as a whole and promotes coordination and communication.

Aside from the above, the most exciting aspect of Guild Wars 2 for me is it's art style, and game play. I feel that the richness and detail thrown into every aspect of the game's environment and character models, coupled with intriguing and addictive game play will surely provide the immersion, suspense and ultimately fun that I had playing my first MMO.

I really do have an incredible amount of hope for Guild Wars 2. Having seen and played many MMORPGs since the release of World of Warcraft, this is the first that I believe will live up the hype. Guild Wars 2 is blessed to have been conceptualised, designed, and implemented by a team of spirited and talented ArenaNet employees.

I hope that Guild Wars 2 will only add to some of your MMO memories, and one day in the future you will write an article swollen with nostalgia about your experiences through Tyria !

I wish you the best of luck with GW2 then. I know many people are waiting for it eagerly. I am a bit concerned, because it is being painted as the savior of the MMO industry. I have to write about this sometime, but the hype - play - trash cycle of MMO gamers has me really concerned.

What's the most exciting aspect of GW2 for you? Exploration, lack of holy trinity?

An amazing read, Kadomi. I too find myself in deep nostalgic thoughts about the early days of World of Warcraft, and I too listen to the original soundtrack at work (personally I feel that sounds are directly related to memories, and evoke those memories easily).

I now find myself somewhat addicted to reading & constantly learning about Guild Wars 2 and it's development. Whilst I do agree with you that nothing will compare to playing your first MMO - and the amazing feeling of the unknown & unexplored - I desperately hope that Guild Wars 2 will re-awaken the feelings for me that I felt during my first few months of playing World of Warcraft. I would give anything to feel that immersion and intrigue again, and I really hope that ArenaNet deliver.
